Velo exists to pursue and promote high quality, traceable and sustainable coffees.

est. 2010
Velo was born out of a fascination with, and a love for coffee. It’s been a slow evolution of meeting our goals with a lot of bike rides along the way. Since the beginning, bikes have been baked into our identity, and that’s simply because we love them. We’ve used bikes for transportation, for fun and to deliver coffee in the early years. The cycling community is one we hold dear and will continue to foster as long as we're around.

Our business was created as a wholesale roaster in an era when exciting changes were transforming the coffee industry. We were able to be at the forefront of the local scene, introducing both progressive roasting techniques and unique coffees. We quickly found our way to the Southside neighborhood where we were met with overwhelming support. From the beginning, sharing our space with makers and artists has inspired us to take pride in what we do and what we create. Today we still strive to offer an inclusive space that welcomes anyone who values the principle of kindness.

present day
Everything has to change and adapt in order to be relevant. Our original, experimental tasting bar has now turned into a full service cafe. After so many years, we’re proud that Velo remains a hub for cyclists, artists, the neighboring community, and travelers alike. It's an honor to serve our community in a way that feels authentic to our brand every step of the way.
We’re cupping weekly, staying current with trends to constantly improve our craft. We take this line of work seriously and we're dedicated to putting things into the world we're proud of as a company. While we don't subscribe to mission statements, that “take it or leave it” mentality has been the closest thing to a guiding principle we’ve had from Velo’s inception.
The specialty coffee industry is ever evolving and we're committed to sustaining and cultivating it for the long haul.

Ali - Alexia Ceramics
Primarily focusing on utilitarian and domestic wares, I prioritize small batch collections to allow myself time for bike rides and making coffee. Each piece is thrown in my dining room, often drawing inspiration from looking out the windows or taking a walk around Highland Park. My hope for Alexia Ceramics is to embody the Appalachian within by dancing between utility and joy and the transformation that can come from allowing yourself more time for introspection and play.
